Solicitation For Nominations For Board Of Directors Elections
DEADLINE May 20, 2022
Brian Roberts, Nominating Committee Chair
Board Nomination Form
Dear Fellow NATOA Members,
On behalf of the NATOA Board of Directors and the Nominating Committee, I invite you to consider nominating another member or yourself to serve on NATOA’s Board of Directors (Board). NATOA seeks a broad range of talented and dedicated professionals to serve in leadership positions on its Board. Board members should have vision, an ability to negotiate and strong leadership and communications skills. This is a wonderful opportunity to advance your level of participation in NATOA. NATOA remains committed to building a community and leadership that is diverse across many dimensions including age, gender, gender identity, ethnicity, nationality, race, religion, sexual orientation and socioeconomic status.
It is important for nominees to know that a great deal of volunteer time and work go into this commitment. The time required to participate as a Board member is dependent upon which committee(s) you chair and the nature and timing of issues being considered by the Board at any given time.
The Nominating Committee advises that nominees should anticipate that:
- Active participation on the Board and its committees will require on average 2-3 hours of work per week
(depending on the time of year and nature of issues being addressed). - Special committee projects may require additional time or attention.
- Board members are expected to participate in monthly Board meetings which average 1.5 hours.
- Most monthly Board meetings are conducted by conference call; however, a nominee's jurisdiction must be willing to support the individual's attendance (including the cost of travel, hotel, meals, etc.) at a minimum of two in-person Board events per year (Annual Conference and Board Planning Retreat), with the understanding that there is a preference for attendance at up to four in-person events held per year (in conjunction with other seminar or conference events, chapter events, or FCC/Capitol Hill visits, as appropriate).
The deadline for nominations is Friday, May 20th. Nominations must be submitted on-line and must be received by the close of business on the 20th. Voting members in “good standing” (the designated voting Agency member or Individual member) who comply with these requirements will be placed on the ballot by the Nominating Committee as a candidate.
Consistent with the bylaws, the Nominating Committee has received word from our current President, Michael Russo, that he would like to run for a second term. As a result, there will not be a vacancy in the President-Elect position at this time, as Rick Assmus will continue in that capacity pending the outcome of the election results. There are four vacancies for Board Director.
YOU MAY NOMINATE YOURSELF OR ANOTHER MEMBER FOR DIRECTOR. Online voting will open on or around June 27th, with the election results announced after the close of the elections on July 28th. NATOA’s Bylaws set forth the procedures by which candidates are nominated and elected.
Please give serious consideration to this opportunity to serve on the NATOA Board. Should you have any questions regarding what is involved in serving, please contact any of the current Board members or members of the Nominating Committee. The members of this year’s Nominating Committee are Brian Roberts (chair), Dave Albery, Carson Hamlin, Rondella Hawkins, Jodie Miller, Catharine Rice, and Karen Tolson.
The nomination form is available here, on the NATOA website, or call NATOA Headquarters at (703) 519-8035 for more information.
