PRESS RELEASE:
Agency Released Hundreds of Consumer Stories and Launched a Formal Inquiry on the Impacts of Internet Services Usage Limits and Fees
WASHINGTON, October 15, 2024—FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel today announced the agency is officially exploring whether and how data caps impact consumers and competition, and shared stories provided by consumers around the country on the impacts these fees and limits have on households and small businesses. These stories highlight how data caps are having tangible, adverse impacts on people’s lives.
“For most people in the United States, rationing their internet usage would be unthinkable and impractical. But, for millions, limitations on how much data they can use online is a constant concern. And many are not happy about it,” said Chairwoman Rosenworcel. “Restricting consumers’ data can cut off small businesses from their customers, slap fees on low-income families, and prevent people with disabilities from using the tools they rely on to communicate. As the nation’s leading agency on communications, it’s our duty to dig deeper into these practices and make sure that consumers are put first.”
