The Government Programming Awards (GPAs) are annual awards that recognize excellence in broadcast, cable, multimedia and electronic programming produced by local government agencies. Categories cover a variety of programming including, among others, community events, documentary, public affairs and public service, interview/talk show, performing arts, sports, election coverage and children’ s issues. Celebrating over 25 years of programming excellence, the GPA’s celebrate the achievements of government programmers across the nation.


2013 Important Dates
  • April 5, 2013 — All entries must be postmarked and sent to NATOA
  • April 5, 2013— All payments for each entry must be received at NATOA
  • April 29 - June 14, 2013— Judging Period
  • July 10, 2013 — Finalists Notified
  • September 19, 2013 — NATOA Awards Banquet in Orlando, Florida
Program must have been originally produced between April 2, 2012 and April 4, 2013.

New and Notable in 2013

- Programming originally PRODUCED between April 2, 2012 and April 4, 2013 is eligible for entry. Programs no longer need to have been cablecast in that time period.
- Craft Categories (61-63) must be entered online. A YouTube link for the entry will be provided on the online entry form. No DVD submissions will be accepted. 
- A written summary is no longer required for the entries in the Excellence Categories.
- Category #45   Use of Social Media
- Category #46    Innovative Use of Video
- Category #63   Editing

When Are The GPAs Held?
The GPAs are an Annual Awards Program that is commenced in the early spring of each year, with judging over the summer months, and the award winners being celebrated at a gala event in conjunction with the NATOA Annual Conference.

How Do I Submit An Entry?

You will simply need to create a profile and submit your entry.  Payment for entries must be received by April 5, 2013. 

When Will I Be Notified That I’ve Won?

Finalists will be notified in July, so that they can make plans to attend the Government Programming Awards Gala held in conjunction with NATOA’s Annual Conference.
