The Government Programming Awards (GPAs) are annual awards that recognize excellence in broadcast, cable, multimedia and electronic programming produced by local government agencies. Categories cover a variety of programming including, among others, community events, documentary, public affairs and public service, interview/talk show, performing arts, sports, election coverage and children’ s issues. Celebrating over 25 years of programming excellence, the GPA’s celebrate the achievements of government programmers across the nation.

The 2015 GPA Call for Entries is open! Entries are due April 10, 2015. Download the Call for Entries HERE.

2015 Important Dates
  • April 10, 2015 — Entry Deadline and Payment Due Date
  • May 1 - June 12, 2015— Judging Period
  • July 13, 2015 — Finalists Notified
  • September 11, 2015 — NATOA Awards Banquet in San Diego, CA
Program must have been originally produced between April 23, 2014 and April 9, 2015.

New and Notable in 2015

- A reminder, we have transitioned to Electronic Submissions Only! All entries must be entered online. To enter, complete the online entry form and include a link to an online video of your entry (YouTube or Vimeo links only). No DVD submissions will be accepted. Judges will receive a digital copy of your entry form and a link to your entry.

- Categories 2 & 3: Edited Community Event Coverage – Edited coverage of a community event (parade, dedication, open house or community festival, etc.)

- Categories 4 & 5: Live Community Event Coverage – “Live to Tape” coverage of a community event (parade, dedication, open house or community festival, etc.)

- Category #59 - Craft Category – Use of Sound


When Are The GPAs Held?

The GPAs are an Annual Awards Program that is commenced in the early spring of each year, with judging over the summer months, and the award winners being celebrated at a gala event in conjunction with the NATOA Annual Conference.

How Do I Submit An Entry?

You will simply need to create a profile and submit your entry.  Payment for entries must be received by April 10, 2015. 

When Will I Be Notified That I’ve Won?

Finalists will be notified in July, so that they can make plans to attend the Government Programming Awards Gala held in conjunction with NATOA’s Annual Conference.
