The Government Programming Awards (GPAs) are annual awards that recognize excellence in broadcast, cable, multimedia and electronic programming produced by local government agencies. Categories cover a variety of programming including, among others, community events, documentary, public affairs and public service, interview/talk show, performing arts, sports, election coverage and children’ s issues. Celebrating over 22 years of programming excellence, the 2008 GPA’s invites government programmers across the nation to join in having their programming judged as amongst the best productions across the country.

When Are The GPAs Held?

This year the GPA awards will begin taking submissions on January 7, 2008 and you have until March 28, 2008 to get your entries in. Judging will begin at the end of April - May and the winners will be notified on June 18, 2008. You can find all the specifics under the section entitled Important Dates To Remember further down the page.

Who Can Participate?

All entries must be submitted by a bona fide jurisdiction of local government or a non-profit organization whose scope of programming includes government access. This includes cities, towns, townships, villages, counties and access corporations, foundations other governmental entity serving municipal or county interests. Each award is granted only to the jurisdiction or organization, not to individual contributors. See the Call for Entries for full eligibility requirements.

Program must have been originally cablecast between March 24, 2007 and March 21, 2008.

How Do I Submit An Entry?

Simply create a profile at this link and submit your entry.

All payments must be received no later than April 21, 2008, in order for the entry to be judged.

When Will I Be Notified That I’ve Won?

Finalists will be notified by June 18, 2008. Winners are announced at the Government Programming Awards Gala held in conjunction with the NATOA Annual Conference, September 16 - 21, 2008 in Atlanta Georgia. The awards gala, which is a formal dinner affair, features a video presentation recognizing the winners as the nation’s best in video programming.

  • March 28, 2008 — All entries must be postmarked and sent to NATOA Headquarters
  • April 21 - May 30, 2008 — Judging Period
  • April 21, 2008 — All payments for each entry must be received at NATOA Headquarters
  • June 18, 2008 — Finalists Notified
  • September 20, 2008 — NATOA Awards Banquet in Atlanta, Georgia
