Doris Boris Biography

Doris J. BorisDoris Boris is Cable Communications Administrator and head of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Office of Cable Franchise Management in the City of Charlotte’s Business Support Services Unit.

Her Office administers cable and right-of-way franchises for both the City and Mecklenburg County, including overseeing all cable television activities, assisting in information technology strategic planning and negotiating technology and right-of-way ordinances and contracts.

Doris joined the City of Charlotte staff in 1988 after serving as Cable Television Project Director for the City of Cleveland, Ohio. In both this capacity and her present position, she was responsible for the creation and development of the cable television divisions.

Doris gained her initial experience in cable television serving for 6 years as a Systems Manager for Continental Cablevision of Ohio. Previously she was employed as Television Traffic Coordinator for WKYC-TV, the NBC owned/operated station in Cleveland, as Communications Director for Cuyahoga Falls Ohio City School District, and as a Federal Grants Planner and Evaluator for Lake County, Ohio.

Doris has over 25 years experience in the communications field – with 18 years of that in the governmental regulatory arena. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (NATOA), and is President of the SouthEast Regional Chapter of NATOA – which won the 2003 NATOA President’s Award for Chapter Excellence.

Doris holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism and Speech Broadcasting from Kent State University, Kent, Ohio, and has completed Paralegal Studies at Central Piedmont Community College, Charlotte.
